The Lamont brothers released their fifth game, Snow Tails, at Spiel 08, and while that edition was limited to a thousand copies, Asmodee has now picked up the game and will publish and distribute it in Q2 2009. If you’re not familiar with the game, perhaps this description by Age of Gods designer Croc will help: “...a sort of Car Wars but with more dogs and less flamethrowers!” No? Then turn to my Snow Tails preview, published in September 2008.

Fantasy Flight Games’ Jason Steinhurst has posted a designer update on the company’s plans for BattleLore, which was purchased from Days of Wonder earlier in 2008. (Admittedly this should be a developer update, but carrying on...) One comment from Steinhurst:

In FFG’s acquisition of the BattleLore product line, we inherited some already started, but as of yet incomplete, projects. Some of these projects were further along than others, but all of them would need lots of hard work before they were finished and in a state that was ready for public consumption.

One of those products is the Heroes expansion that Days of Wonder first mentioned in April 2007. Says Steinhurst, “I know you’ve been waiting for this expansion for quite a while now, but believe me when I say it will be worth it. Spring 2009 will be a great time to be a BattleLore fan.”

And with that date in mind, this game has been updated on Gone Cardboard.

Asmodee has announced a new track for the recently released Formula D, one that marries a racing track in Florida and a neighborhood in Chicago to emphasize the dual nature of the new game. The Chicago half of the expansion is all about street racing through East Park:

This track offers an urban terrain which alternates between curves and straight lines. This mad race in the heart of city traffic will give pilots a chance to drive along the impressive Aon Center, one of the tallest skyscrapers of the city, to cross the Lake Shore East Park and its three tightly woven lanes (be careful about collisions!), and then rush along the inner port before finally crossing two vertigo-inducing bridges.
